Benjamin Logan (1743 - 1802) returned from Virgina with his family on March 8, 1776. It is most likely that he returned to the cabin that he started the year before. This cabin was not completed. It had no door... a blanket was used to cover the opening. This cabin was most likely the beggining structure of Logan's Fort. After Discovering a great many Indian signs in the area, he moved his family to Fort Harrod for better Safety. Logan made many trips between Fort Harrod and his cabin that summer. The next year, he had convinced several others who were living at Fort Harrod to join him in constructing a fort at St. Asaph. As they were working claims in the same area, they, like Logan, were spending a great deal of their time traveling between Fort Harrod and their land. Fort Logan was completed and occupied by February of 1777. |
